Avert asks for no personal data: no name, no email, no account. It has no ads.
What the app gathers, and why
- Usage analytics. The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to count how the app is used — for instance that it was opened, on what kind of device and in what country. This helps us decide what to improve. It is tied to an identifier of the installation, never to your name.
- Crash reports. If the app fails, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a technical report of the failure and the device model, so that we can fix it.
- Announcements. We can send announcements about the app through Firebase Cloud Messaging. To deliver them, that service gives each installation an identifier and keeps the language of the app with it.
- Settings from the publisher. Firebase Remote Config lets us change settings of the app without a new version. It uses the same installation identifier.
These services are provided by Google, which processes the data on our behalf. Its policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
During a journey the app sends the phone's position (coordinates, altitude, speed, accuracy and time) to an Avert server in the European Union (Supabase), together with the train number you enter. Nothing that identifies you is stored; the position is deleted when the journey ends or after 30 minutes without news. The map shows one position per train, never each passenger's.
Train suggestion. Without a journey, the app sends one position of the phone (coordinates and, if known, heading) to the same server only to find the trains near you: when you open the «Which train are you on?» window, or when the phone moves faster than 130 km/h. The server answers with those trains and does not store the position.
Updates. The app asks app-qr.com, a Ginere server, whether there is a new version of its screens. That server receives the phone's IP address and nothing else.
Map. The map background is downloaded from OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap data) or, when so configured, from Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional. While the map is open, that server receives the phone's IP address and which map areas are viewed; it does not receive your reported position or the train number. Your choices
- Turn analytics and crash reports off. Open Settings in the app and set «Usage analytics» to Off. They are on by default; we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working, and you can object at any time with that switch.
- Turn announcements off. Refuse the notification permission, or turn the app's notifications off in your phone's settings. The app works the same.
- Remove everything. Uninstalling the app ends all of it. We keep nothing that identifies you, so there is nothing else to delete.
- Delete your data. Positions sent during a journey expire on the server two minutes after they arrive, so there is nothing to keep; the only lasting identifier is the installation id Firebase gives the app, which disappears when you uninstall it. To have the analytics and crash records of your installation deleted earlier, write to privacy@ginere.eu: we delete them within 30 days.
What never leaves your phone
- Your settings. The language and the light or dark mode are stored on your phone only.
Children
The app treats every user the same, whatever their age, and asks for no personal data from anyone.
